Report on the Club stands at The London Model Engineering Exhibition 2008
The Exhibition took place on the 18/19/20th of January last. Meridienne, the company that organises this show, agreed to let the four clubs I belong to have stands. We displayed a variety of scale model subjects that the clubs produce and we encouraged prospective model makers to join a club and enjoy the great advantages that clubs offer members whatever their experience and skills in model making.
The four clubs displaying were: Association of London Modellers, West Middlesex Scale Model Club, IPMS Farnborough Model Club and South London Scale Model Club.
I am pleased to say that we had more than our fair share of attention on the three show days and club members were kept on their feet most of the time answering the public’s questions about the models displayed.
As an additional draw to our stands, club members gave demonstrations on the subjects of airbrushing, making your own decals, creating artificial water scenes and constructing model kits.
Meridienne was delighted with our display and the attention it created. They have invited us to the exhibition again next year.
We hope to have a larger display then with perhaps a few more clubs joining us.
All the club members manning the stands enjoyed the experience of bringing scale plastic modelling to the fore with the general public. A great deal of interest was shown making it a very positive and worthwhile time for the clubs. In addition the clubs have a few prospective new members that we have invited to our meetings.
